Safer school runs thanks to SteelPhalt donation
ROTHERHAM road surface specialist SteelPhalt is taking road safety into the classroom as the winter darker hours return.
The company, part of the Harsco Group, produces high performance asphalt products from the slag produced by the region’s steel industry and specialises in products aimed at enhancing safety and efficiency on the roads.
But the company is also encouraging children to think road safety, presenting schools in Rotherham and Doncaster with high vis waistcoats, perfect for being seen on the school during dark winter mornings.
And every child at Wales Primary School in Rotherham and Sunnyfields Primary School in Doncaster is now kitted out for a safer journey to school.
“All our products are aimed at increasing safety levels by providing better, more durable surfaces for the region’s roads,” said SteelPhalt Commercial Manager Dean Raynor.
“But at the same time motorists have to be alert and aware of other road users and we hope that our high vis waistcoats will make children more visible as they walk to and from school throughout the winter.”
The SteelPhalt plant in Sheffield Road, Rotherham, converts steel slag into a surface course for road making.
It achieves high skid resistance - enhancing road safety for both drivers and pedestrians - and maintains it throughout the whole life of the road, also avoiding the use of quarried materials and the landfill of residual slag product.
The exceptional strength and durability of steel slag extends the life of the road and lengthens road maintenance intervals for resurfacing.
The company’s products include SteelStop, SteelSurf, SteelPave and SteelFlow.
