Quayside Shot Snaps Up Great Locations Regional Prize
A BUDDING photographer has received regional recognition after being named the North East winner of Miller Homes’ ‘Great Locations’ photography competition.
Guest judges from DIGITALAB selected Rob Cole, a 48-year-old sales manager, as the winner after his photo of Newcastle’s Quayside was described as a technically excellent image of an iconic area.
The ‘Great Locations’ photography competition from Miller Homes asked entrants across the North East to submit a photograph they had taken that encapsulates all that is great about the area in which they live.
Birtley-based Rob said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to have won. Competitions such as these give amateur photographers a chance to shine and it’s definitely encouraged me to take this hobby even further.
“I regularly photograph the quaysides of Gateshead and Newcastle as they are particular favourites of mine as they somehow manage to combine both old and new. The historic Tyne Bridge in the background blends with the ultra-modern buildings and Gateshead’s Millennium Bridge in the foreground to showcase the progression of this vibrant, lively area.
“I’d like to thank Miller Homes and DIGITALAB for giving me this opportunity and this fantastic platform to help my work gain recognition.”
Rob’s framed winning image, courtesy of DIGITALAB, will be displayed at Miller Homes’ Park View development in Gateshead as part of the prize, which also includes a £50 Amazon voucher for Rob.
Andrew Somerville, regional sales manager of Miller Homes North East, said: “The aim of our ‘Great Locations’ competition was to encourage people to start conversations about the areas in which they live, and to appreciate our region as a beautiful and important landscape.
“We received a range of standout entries, but for our judges there could only be one winner. We’d like to thank the panel at DIGITALAB for judging this tough competition and for supplying the framed photograph which will be proudly displayed at our Park View development in Gateshead.”
Jill Roe of DIGITALAB added: “We were honoured to be selected as guest judges for Miller Homes’ ‘Great Locations’ competition in the North East, which celebrates the region’s diverse mix of landscapes. Our panel thoroughly enjoyed looking through all of the entries received from a number of very talented North East photographers, from shots of the beautiful countryside to sweeping sea vistas.
“In the end, we decided that Rob’s classic shot of the quayside highlights a setting that definitely encapsulates the beauty of the region.”
