Fletchers Solicitors bolsters leadership with high-profile non-execs following exceptional growth

Southport-based serious injury and medical negligence law firm Fletchers Solicitors has announced the appointment of two big-hitting non-executive directors.

Nigel Savage, the high-profile former CEO of The University of Law (formerly The College of Law), and Paul Duncanson, one of the UK’s leading marketing and brand specialists, have joined the board of Fletchers Solicitors with immediate effect.

Savage stepped down as CEO of The University of Law in March 2014 after leading the organisation for 18 years and establishing an enviable record in managing change and growth. During his tenure, Savage steered the institution through a radical change in its operating model and built revenues significantly, culminating in a sale to private equity in 2012. He has wide experience in management, governance, risk and business growth.

Meanwhile, Duncanson brings a wealth of experience to Fletchers Solicitors’ board in marketing and brand management. He was managing director of Creativebrief Ltd, the leading provider of agency intelligence to brand marketers. His most notable achievements include assisting with the launch, marketing and development of a number of leading brands in the UK and globally including Coca-Cola, Ribena, Andrex and Sony PlayStation. Duncanson is currently the managing partner of The Creativebrief Consultancy, which provides clients with in-depth advice and assistance to maximise the effectiveness of their marketing strategies.

Ed Fletcher, CEO of Fletchers Solicitors, said: “We are delighted with these appointments. Nigel’s experience in governance, leadership and management, and Paul’s wealth of experience in markets and brand management, will help us to sustain the considerable growth that we have experienced in recent years.

“They both have very strong commercial expertise and appreciate the challenges of operating in the professional services sector. They join David Walmsley on our board who has a wealth of financial knowledge in running clinical negligence law service organisations.”

Fletchers Solicitors has seen unprecedented growth in recent years and increasing recognition of its success. The law firm was recently named in the London Stock Exchange’s 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain list, which identified dynamic small- to medium-sized enterprises that contribute to job creation, boost economic growth and consistently outperform their peers.

Ed Fletcher added: “In the last year, we have strengthened the finance and people teams with senior appointments from outside the legal sector.

“We operate as a limited company and these appointments will underpin that structure by bringing independent challenge to our processes and strategic decision-making. We are proud of our model, which embraces the best of contemporary corporate governance while retaining the firm’s traditional values of absolute commitment to our clients and employees.”
