‘Glamping’ trend sees Catterick timber camping specialist increase sales to over £500k
‘Glamping’ (camping, but with the added bonus of proper and even luxury facilities) the consumer trend which has gone nationwide, is boosting sales at Catterick-based NY TImber.
Sales of their ‘MegaPod’, a compact static timber camping pod with all mod cons designed by Newfoundland Lodges of Kendal, have rocketed due to the increased demand.
NY Timber’s sales for 2015 are already worth over £500k, and they were invited to exhibit the MegaPod at the recent Hoseasons Annual Owners’ Conference.
Nick Kershaw, managing director of NY Timber said: “Hoseasons are marketing MegaPods at Paradise Lakeside Lodges, York for the first time this year and the success of those led them to invite us to exhibit at their owner’s conference.
“We set up a MegaPod in the main conference hall and people were queuing to look inside – the level of interest was phenomenal.
“The potential return on investment is one of the attractions for site owners. Five MegaPods can be delivered to site for less than £100k, which is often the price of a fully kitted out lodge.
“As well as glamping holidays and weekends away, more people are taking to the outdoors to enjoy activities such as fishing, mountain biking, surfing and walking, and MegaPods provide great value stays in beautiful locations.”
Ian Bone of Newfoundland Lodges said: “MegaPods are fun and look great in the landscape. Because of their size they can make use of sites where traditional lodges just couldn’t be accommodated.
“They’re made by craftsmen from sustainable materials and they’re easy to maintain.
“Feedback from site owners and their customers is excellent on quality, value and return on investment.”
MegaPods come complete with shower room with toilet and sink, a double bed, kitchenette, seating area which converts to a double bed, heating, television and power points, window blinds and curtains.
