Matfen Hall launches new £300k aqua vitae spa

Northumberland’s Matfen Hall Hotel has unveiled its latest development in a rolling programme of investment, opening the doors to a new £300k aqua vitae spa.

At the heart of the new spa is a thermal suite designed to improve circulation and soothe both body and soul, with an aromatherapy room - with mood lighting and aromatherapy essences - a steam room and a sauna.

There is also an ice bucket shower and ice fountains, to cool the body temperature and wash away toxins and a multi-headed monsoon shower, offering a choice of temperatures and water patterns.

In addition, hotel residents, day guests and spa members alike, can enjoy full use of the 16m UV-filtered swimming pool and spa pool along with a range of treatments, facials and massages, carried out by a highly trained team of therapists in candlelit treatment rooms.

The installation of the thermal suite follows the opening of a new fitness suite at the hotel earlier this year and complements the hotel’s leisure facilities, which also include a 27 hole golf course and training academy.

England under 18s and Newcastle Falcons centre, Tom Penny, was on hand to give the new facilities a sporting seal of approval.

Officially opening the Aqua Vitae Spa, 20-year-old Tom, who lives at Matfen Village, said: “When I’m not playing rugby I’m playing golf – in fact, one of my proudest moments was chipping in from the bunker on the fourth hole of the Par 3 course here at Matfen Hall.

“From now on, whether I’ve had a long day on the pitch, or on the green, I am looking forward to unwinding in these fabulous new facilities.”
