Miller Homes North raises over £33K for Martin House
A FUNDRAISING effort by kind-hearted employees at Miller Homes in the North of England has seen them raise a staggering £33,174 in just seven months for Martin House Children’s Hospice.
The employees from Miller Homes’ three regions in the North – the North East, the North West and Yorkshire – raised the money during their own time by taking part in a number of charity events and smashing their initial target of £25,000.
The fundraising began with participation in a Dragon Boat Race at Roundhay Park and included a variety of events such as a daring Skydive, the gruelling Tough Mudder before culminating in a glamorous charity dinner.
Steve Birch, managing director for Miller Homes North, said: “As a business, it is very important to us that we support the communities in which we operate and where we build new homes. Every year we choose a charity which will benefit from our efforts and this year we selected Martin House Children’s Hospice because of the outstanding work it does in providing family-led care for children with life-shortening conditions.
“The whole journey has been a tremendous success and provided a real opportunity to support Martin House but also to enhance teamwork across our three regions in the North. Not only have we raised a superb amount of money for a terrific charity but the participation and commitment of our teams in their own time and the results they have achieved has given us all a real boost.”
Martin House Children’s Hospice opened in 1987 and since then the purpose built hospital has provided a place where children, young people and their families can come to stay and find support, rest and practical help as well as enjoying the best quality of life. Martin House has played a leading role in the development of the philosophy and delivery of children’s hospice care, not only in the UK but throughout the world.
John Haigh, corporate fundraiser from Martin House, commented: “Working with Miller Homes this year has been an absolute pleasure, and we are delighted that they have managed to raise in excess of £33,000. This is one of the largest contributions we will receive from the corporate sector and a lot more than the original target the company set itself at the outset - more than enough to pay for the entire hospice for two whole days.
“Not only this, but the whole team had great fun in the process, and we hope their involvement has left lasting benefit in terms of employee motivation. We thank every one of them for their personal contribution, and look forward to their continuing support into the future.”
