North East adoption agency welcomes ministerial visit
Wearside based ARC Adoption North East welcomed Children’s Minister Edward Timpson MP on Monday 8th December.
ARC Adoption NE is one of three new voluntary adoption agencies in the UK, and the only one in the North, that were developed with a start-up grant as part of the Government’s reform of the adoption system.
Situated at the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC), ARC Adoption NE’s vastly experienced team will be showcasing their plans to create 100 extra homes for children in need of adoption placements over the next three years.
The new organisation has made a flying start and although not yet a year old they already have number of families approved and several children placed in loving homes.
Children and Families Minister, Edward Timpson, who grew up with two adopted brothers said:
“As a direct result of the government’s investment this brand new agency is now open for business, finding and helping potential adopters across the North East and beyond.
With thousands of children still waiting for a loving, stable home, it’s vital we continue to do all we can to recruit new parents and voluntary adoption agencies have an important role to play in boosting numbers further.“
Director of ARC Adoption, Terry Fitzpatrick said:
“It is a privilege for us all here to work in the adoption field and we are delighted to be able to showcase the work that we are doing for children, not just in the North East but throughout the country.”
The Government reforms have really made a difference and the number of children adopted is at its highest level for many years. However, there are still thousands of children waiting for families. It is hoped that ARC Adoption NE can make a valuable contribution towards finding those children a new family.
