Digital PR specialists use Christmas card cash for charity donation

A PR and online marketing agency will be sending a charitable donation instead of Christmas cards this year.

Outwrite will be spreading seasonal good will online via email and social media after donating its festive greetings card budget to Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

CRY supports young people diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions, offers bereavement support to families affected by YSCD (young sudden cardiac death) and also funds world-renowned research at St Georges’ University in London. CRY has also developed a pioneering cardiac screening programme for young people from the age of 14.

Every week, 12 apparently fit and healthy young (aged 35 and under) people die suddenly from a previously undiagnosed heart condition. In 80 per cent of these cases, there will have been no symptoms or warning signs, which is why screening is so vitally important.

The Mold-based digital PR specialist is urging other businesses in the region to follow suit by sending Christmas greetings online and donating to a good cause.

Outwrite’s PR admin assistant Lisa Appleby picked the charity after previously supporting them following the death of a family member.

She said: “My Uncle died suddenly in 2006 because of an unknown cardiac condition.

“I have donated to CRY previously and to have the chance to make a difference again is fantastic.

“Giving to those that deserve it is what Christmas is all about, and we encourage everyone else to donate to good causes like CRY as well.”

Alison Cox MBE, chief executive and founder of CRY said: “For the past 20 years CRY has relied on the generosity of the public – both in terms of time and money – to fund our range of specialist services from screening and research to our network of bereavement support.

“Since we launched in 1995, the charity has gone from strength to strength - indeed, our pioneering cardiac screening programme is now testing more than 15,000 young people every year across the UK.

“On behalf of all of us at CRY, I would like to say a huge “thank you” to the team at Outwrite for choosing us as a beneficiary for this Christmas card campaign and for helping to raise further awareness of CRY and our work.”

CRY’s screening programme now tests 15,000 young people across the UK every year and holds specialist bereavement support days for families affected by YSCD. For more information and to donate, visit www.c-r-y.org.uk, or call 01737 363222.
