Persimmon’s ball raises thousands for charity
PERSIMMON’S CHARITY BALL RAISES THOUSANDS FOR END OF LIFE CARE CHARITY
All the glitz and glamour of a Charity Ball proved to be a huge hit after more than £35,000 was raised for End of Life Care charity, Marie Curie. More than 350 people attended the black tie event, which was organised by Persimmon Homes East Scotland, who had vowed to raise funds for Marie Curie throughout 2014.
Persimmon Homes’ staff and guests from the construction industry enjoyed the ball, at the Sheraton Grand Resort and Spa in Edinburgh, which was compered by Scottish comedian and radio presenter, Fred MacAulay.
Guests got involved in a ‘Strictly-style’ dance off and enjoyed a medley of songs from the swing band, Paul Pashley and his Players before being invited to bid for auction lots, purchase tickets for a diamond draw, and try their luck in a Grand Prize Draw.
Managing Director at Persimmon Homes East Scotland, Jim Kirkpatrick, said the event had proved to be an enormous success.
“The Ball was a fantastic occasion and I would like to thank everyone who attended or donated to this very worthwhile cause,” he added.
“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of businesses, clients, colleagues and friends who contributed towards the huge amount raised.”
Marie Curie is the leading charity providing care to people with any terminal illness in their own homes or in one of its nine hospices. The charity is also a leader in research into the best ways of caring for people with a terminal illness.
On the night, Marie Curie nurse, Lorna McGarry, gave a very personal account of her role with the charity and the difference she makes to families on a daily basis. Paul Cockram, Partnership Manager for Marie Curie Cancer Care said: “We’re very grateful to Persimmon’s employees and suppliers for their fundraising efforts. “We couldn’t continue our work without the support of businesses like Persimmon Homes and we are very proud of our relationship. The money raised from the ball will fund two Marie Curie nurses for a whole year – a wonderful achievement from one of the UK’s leading businesses”.
