Residents benefit from roofing refurbishment

Socially aware building and roofing specialist, Hodgson Sayers, is helping to improve the quality of life for residents in High Etherley, Bishop Auckland, by replacing and restoring roofing on 40 properties.

In partnership with client, North Star Housing Group, which includes Teesdale Housing Association, the company was awarded the contract to renew the roof covering on the houses.

Dean Goyns, Contracts Manager at Hodgson Sayers, said: “North Star Housing Group recognised that to enhance the lives of the residents it would prove beneficial to renovate the properties in High Etherley, Bishop Aukland.

“Through a tender process we were brought in to primarily strip the old tiles, felts and laths, replacing them on a like-for-like basis with a new, dry ridge verge system. This emulates the appearance of the original, is weather tight and will last for many years to come.

“From the onset, we have liased closely with the client and residents to put a plan in place to ensure they are kept up-to-date with the renovations and have supplied them with a questionnaire so that we gather their feedback and assess whether their needs are being met.

“Our Site Manager, Peter Farnaby, has been accessible throughout the project to provide advice or answer residents’ questions. Social responsibility is a core value of our company, and it always provides us with a great sense of satisfaction knowing that we are able to add real value to the lives of residents.”

Joe Lee, Asset Management Surveyor at North Star Housing Group, said: “Since procuring the services of Hodgson Sayers through the LHC Framework we have been delighted with their performance during this contract. They have shown an ability to deliver an efficient contract with health and safety always in mind, as well as keeping disruption to tenants and residents to an absolute minimum.”

Established in 1979, as Hodgson & Allon, the company - which became Hodgson Sayers in 2013 - began primarily as a roofing contractor. Over the years it has developed and diversified considerably to include building works, fencing and metalwork fabrication.

Its ISO 9001 accredited operations are reflected in the consistently high standards of delivery, presentation and all processes.
