Leeds contracting firm Nova doubles Christmas business on last year

Leeds-based contracting specialist Nova Contracting has more than doubled its pre-Christmas business on last year as online shoppers ensure a busy season for home deliveries.

Nova Contracting works with national recruitment agencies to provide accounting and business administration services to drivers and other temporary workers and contractors.

Nova Contracting recorded average growth of more than 214% over five years, with latest turnover of almost £45 million.

Its specialist team has provided support services to the UK recruitment industry since 2001, ensuring compliance with HMRC rules and the latest employment legislation.

Recent research from etailing trade association IMRG says UK shoppers are expected to spend over £100 billion online this year – representing 17% growth and incorporating a huge Christmas market surge.

John Lewis says online now accounts for around 30% of overall sales.

Marcus Green, Nova contracting’s director said: “There was considerable uncertainty in the industry when new legislation affecting temporary drivers was discussed at the beginning of the year, but we were quick to communicate the likely changes and ensure a compliant service.

“We knew that treating all income as employment income would be an essential part of HMRC’s criteria, so we were ready with a compliant solution when the amended legislation came into force.

“That means we’ve been able to continue to provide tax-compliant services and ensure all our contractors receive the most best possible offering.

“As demand has spiked in the quarter up to Christmas, that has proved to be a winning combination.”
