Taxi firm helps drive business to Tees Valley venues

Teessiders are enjoying their leisure time to the full, according to research by the region’s leading taxi firm.

Boro Taxis, which handles between 70,000 and 80,000 jobs per week, has produced a cabbie’s guide to Teesside’s destination hotspots.

The snapshot of where Teessiders like to socialise reveals that films, eating out and a night at the pub are favoured by customers of the firm, which is one of the biggest taxi firms in the North East.

The following top ten has emerged from Boro Taxis’ analysis of its calls:

3. Akbars Indian Restaurant, Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough

4. Al Fornos Italian restaurant, Southfield Road, Middlesbrough

6. Walkabout, Corporation Road, Middlesbrough

7. The Empire Nightclub, Corporation Road, Middlesbrough,

8. The Keys, Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough

9. Sopranos Pizzas, Wilson Street, Middlesbrough

10.Pig Iron pub, Corporation Road, Middlesbrough

Eddie Gershon, a spokesman for J D Wetherspoon, which owns the Swatters Carr, said: “We are delighted that the Swatters Carr is one of the most popular pubs in the region as evidenced by the research undertaken by Boro Taxis.

“We also are delighted that our customers are acting responsibly and taking a cab to and from the pub throughout the week.”

Mohammed Bashir, founder of the firm, which employs nearly 900 people and has 750 cars in its fleet, said: “Our level of bookings, which totals up to 80,000 calls a week, clearly demonstrates that Teessiders like to get out and about and make the most of their spare time.

“Our research has found that our customers have an appetite for eating out, going to see the latest blockbuster movies and meeting up with their friends at the pub.

“It also captures what a great place Teesside is when it comes to having a good night out.

“Boro Taxis is pleased to be helping contribute to the local economy, not just through the number of people we employ, but by transporting customers to venues around the area.”

Mr Bashir added: “We endorse J D Wetherspoon’s sentiments that our customers take the drink drive laws seriously and are acting responsibly by leaving their cars at home and booking a cab to transport them to and from a night out.”
