Niramax gives primary school the X Factor

Teenage X-Factor star Lauren Platt has played one of her most exclusive performances – at aGateshead primary school.

In a competition backed by recycling firm Niramax, Harlow Green Community Primary School showed their music skills and won a performance from 17-year-old Lauren – who came fourth in this year’s TV show.

Harlow Green pupils beat almost 100 other schools who were asked to write songs about the ‘clever way to deal with all the stuff you throw away’.

The final three schools, Harlow Green, Westoe Crown Primary School and Moorside Primary School, recorded their songs with local musician Mark Deeks and more than 3,000 listeners to Metro Radio/TFM voted for their favourite.

Daniel Thompson, sales manager at Niramax, which has bases at Hartlepool and Washington, said: “We’re thrilled for Harlow Green pupils, who have had a show they will remember for a long time.

“They have also experienced a bit of X-Factor glamour, with 50 CDs from their own recording session at Blast Studios in Newcastle, as well as a trophy and £1,000.

“Niramax has a long tradition of supporting the local community, and this was another very successful way of getting young people thinking about recycling and the impact it can have on their surroundings.”

Harlow Green Head teacher Alison Stephenson said: “It was a fantastic treat for the children. They had worked really hard on the song and were so excited to have an

X-Factor finalist singing for them at the school.

“We always encourage them to look after their surroundings and we are very proud that their recycling message won the competition.”
