Barratt boosts Yorkshire’s economy by £44.8million

Having reported a 23% in growth this year, leading house builder Barratt Developments Yorkshire East, has revealed that throughout 2014 it has contributed a massive £3.8million to the local economy – resulting in 1,900 jobs.

Having built 555 new homes across the East, South and North of Yorkshire in the past 12 months alone, the local house builder has contributed £6.9million to local projects and affordable housing in 2014 and has also supported 10 graduates, apprentices and trainees into the industry. The overall economic footprint of its new developments with additional spending in local shops and services by new residents is £7.9million, which has supported 99 high street jobs – a major boost for Yorkshire’s economy.

Paul Newman, Managing Director of Barratt Developments Yorkshire East, commented:

“This isn’t just a housebuilder reporting growth, this is a significant and noteworthy growth of Yorkshire’s economy. We have purchased more than 40% of the land released this year across the region and built 555 homes, 76 of which have been affordable housing. Without these major contributions, the economy would be short of 1,900 jobs and £6.9million in community investments – including education and local infrastructure.

“The construction industry has long acted as a barometer for wider economic growth, so these figures represent a hopeful and more buoyant future for our county. We are extremely proud of the growth throughout 2014 and accredit it to our hard working team, superior build quality and naturally the fact that we’re lucky enough to be building in such a desirable area of the country.”

Barratt Developments’ Yorkshire East Division, which includes both the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, has also announced that in the past 12 months it has invested more than £25million in the Yorkshire economy by working with more than 100 Yorkshire-based sub-contractors and suppliers at its developments across the region.
