‘The Gym’ chain set to launch on Gosforth High Street despite opposition
Budget gym chain ‘The Gym Group’ is set for further its North East expansion by opening a new centre on Gosforth High Street.
The group were initially granted planning permission last May although have since received opposition from local residents over proposed opening hours.
Usually, The Gym operates on a 24 hour basis. However, both residents and local councillors deemed that this would bring adverse noise to the community meaning the gym would have to accept restricted hours to open.
The Gym advocated opening times from 6am until midnight although it has now been decided that opening times will fall between 7am and 11pm.
The Gym Group, founded in 2008 by former England squash player John Treharne, opened its initial premises in Hounslow, London in 2008.
The Gosforth High Street centre is set to open in May and will be ‘The Gym’s third operation in Newcastle, along with the City Centre and Newcastle East branch in Benton.
