Bird’s eye view shows changing face of Castleward

Derby residents can now get a bird’s eye view of the city’s £100 million Castleward development, as Compendium Living is capturing the area’s transformation through a series of aerial shots.

Aerial images of the site, located between the city centre and Derby railway station, show how work is progressing on phase one of the development, which will see 924,000 bricks used to build 164 new homes and 16,500 sq ft of commercial space.

The developer now plans to photograph the site annually until work on Castleward is complete, when it will have transformed the 30-acre site into a total of 800 new homes and 35,000 sq ft of commercial space.

Dave Bullock, Managing Director at Compendium Living, comments: “As a landmark project for Derby we feel it is important to document the progress of Castleward and show how this new development is shaping the landscape.

“As the images show, what was previously underused land is being given new purpose as Castleward transforms this previously unattractive area of the city into a new neighbourhood, with homes, commercial space, open public space and a new boulevard creating an attractive link between the railway station and the city centre.”

The images show the first completed homes and commercial units close to the Intu shopping centre and work well underway further along the boulevard on more new homes and apartments, which are all part of phase one of the development.

Dave adds: “While these aerial shots show the great progress we are making on Castleward they also demonstrate that there is a lot of work still to be done and we look forward to seeing the development take shape as work progresses.”

As a development, Castleward is already leading the way having scooped the Refurbishment and Regeneration accolade at the Forum for the Built Environment Awards and being awarded the Built for Life commendation, after scoring green in all 12 categories of assessment.

A number of two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom homes are currently available at Castleward, priced from £132,950.

A limited number of homes are also available to purchase using shared ownership through Riverside Home Ownership. The scheme, which is available to those with a household income of less than £60,000, allows buyers to purchase a 25% to 75% share of a new home at Castleward.
