South Yorkshire Based BLE Secures Project At ONE NEW CHANGE In London

A Sheffield based smoke and fire curtain manufacturing company is celebrating the installation of its curtains in London’s newest shopping destination.

BLE, one of the leading providers of Smoke and Fire Curtains in the UK, has designed and installed fire curtains in Land Securities’ latest development, One New Change on Cheapside in the heart of the capital, which overlooks London’s most famous landmark, St. Paul’s Cathedral.

BLE Smoke & Fire installed a challenging series of smoke curtains to provide protection around the central circular atrium on all levels and more challenging still were the curtains to the lightwells created in the floors.

Mark Gilmore, European sales and contracts manager at BLE, said: “It is exciting that BLE was selected to install fire curtains in such an impressive building like One New Change. It has been a rewarding project and we feel privileged to have been selected.”

Offering the latest in electronic technology and innovation, BLE Smoke and Fire Curtains, specialise in the design, manufacture and installation of the gravity fail-safe smoke and fire curtains, for airports, shopping centres, theatres, businesses and museums around the world.

One New Change is London’s newest shopping destination, complete with cafés and restaurants from renowned chefs and flagship menswear and womenswear fashion brands.

Mr Gilmore, added: “Due to the architecture of the building, the curtains that were stalled to the lightwells created in the floors were very challenging. These large irregular shapes contained both severe acute and obtuse angles all of which needed our fully engineered curtains to provide EN12101 compliance.

Working closely with Jean Nouvels architectural practice and Sidell Gibson as well as Arup, BLEdelivered the smoke compartmentation to all levels to satisfy the needs of the Fire Authorities without compromising the stunning design of the building.

BLE was commissioned to complete the work based on the company’s track record for innovation and resolving complex fire and smoke safety issues.
