Tyneside restaurant receives Michelin Bib Gourmand Award

A North Tyneside restaurant is only two in the North of the region and one of five in the North East to have made their mark on the foodie scene and earned themselves a prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand Award for the third year in succession!

The River Café on the Tyne (formally David Kennedy’s River Café on the Tyne) is owned by Paul Scott and Michelle Dickie, The Bib Gourmand category is awarded to restaurants offering good food at competitive prices, with a maximum of £28 for three courses.

Paul Scott says: “To receive this award for the third consecutive year is fantastic news and proves that restaurants are able to provide affordable food at Michelin standards.

“Our Head Chef Christopher Wilson, holds a reputation for attention to detail, sourcing the best ingredients and freshest locally sourced produce cooked well, but at a reasonable price.”

Front-of-House Paul and his partner Michelle have a wealth of experience in North East restaurants including Terry Laybourne’s award- winning 21 Queen Street and Terry’s Cafe 21 at Darras Hall. The restaurant was awarded two AA rosettes and then within 12 months of opening had been voted Café of the Year by the Observer Magazine under Paul’s management.

River Café on the Tyne is open Tuesday 5pm – 9.30pm; Wednesday and Thursday 12noon – 9.30pm Friday & Saturday 12noon – 10pm and Sunday 12noon – 4pm.
