Northumberland youngster secures maintenance apprenticeship at AAF
Tyne North Training has been recruiting engineering apprentices for over 40 years. This year in excess of 170 apprentices started their apprenticeships through TNT with many of them being recruited in Northumberland. Working closely with local schools and colleges TNT were able to present opportunities to dozens of local 16 – 18 year olds from the region.
Kyle Kirkpatrick applied to TNT in Spring 2014 with the hope of securing a maintenance engineering apprenticeship. After a rigorous assessment process which included testing in English and Maths, an engineering reasoning test and an interview with one of the TNT Training Officers, Kyle was informed that he had been successful in passing the TNT entry requirements.
During Kyle’s interview with TNT he expressed that he was keen on securing a maintenance apprenticeship at world class manufacturer. Tyne North Training quickly recognised that Kyle had a genuine interest in this area of engineering and presented him with several interview opportunities.
In summer, after several interviews, Kyle received the fantastic news that he had been offered a maintenance engineering apprenticeship at American Air Filters (AAF) which is widely recognised as one of the world class employers in the region.
Chris Milne, himself an ex maintenance manager from the tier 1 automotive sector, now has the responsibility of managing Kyle through his 4 year apprenticeship. Chris commented “Kyle came to us earlier this year with a real determination to secure a maintenance apprenticeship. Through each process he remained focused on what he wanted to do. AAF have recruited a real asset in Kyle.”
