Renowned Tyneside Indian restaurant relaunches creating 12 jobs

Renowned Tyneside Indian restaurant The Last Days of The Raj has relaunched in a new location, creating an initial 12 new jobs with more to follow.

The restaurant was a favourite eatery for scores of diners from across the region until it closed in 2012.

Set up originally by Athair Khan, he has now passed on his expertise to son Imran who will be heading up the new incarnation of the restaurant, this time in the former Bay Horse pub at Main Street, Dinnington.

The former pub, which has been empty for two years, has undergone a major facelift to transform into a stylish restaurant before opening up this week (Jan 15).

The new venue has 68 seats and has a take away service.

Imran Khan, Athair’s son, said: “I am delighted that we’ve brought back The Last Days of The Raj to a new location.

“My father created a fantastic restaurant which was very popular and now I’m hoping to do the same and of course he will still be involved to offer his expertise.

“We are offering many of the favourite dishes that we were renowned for but with a lot of new and exciting choices which we are sure will be a huge hit with our diners.

“We’ve had lots of positive response from people who have heard about the new restaurant and we’re looking forward to seeing all of our old clients – and of course many new ones. It’s very exciting for us to be open again.”
