Liverpool set for a ‘monumental’ year
To maintain its reputation as a leading UK tourist destination, Liverpool is set to host an extensive array of events this year.
Highlights include the Cunard’s 175th anniversary in May, whereby the impressive Three Queens will all meet at the Pier Head. Other big events include the return of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, Mersey River Festival and LIMF.
Chairman of Liverpool Hoteliers Association James Rush believes that as a result of the increased footfall during the diverse arts, business and sports events - the city will witness a staggering boost to its economy, as well as a rise in hotel residency levels.
James said: “It is essential for Liverpool to host several big hitting events each year, in order to maintain its prominent stance as a popular multi-cultural tourist hotspot.
“With such a diverse array of exciting events, I personally believe that 2015 is going to be monumental for the city’s economic growth and development. As tourists will be travelling from across the globe, the events will certainly bring a huge amount of hotel trade into the city.“
An independent study commissioned last year by Liverpool City Council, revealed that following the global phenomena of the Giant Spectacular, a staggering £46m was generated for the city’s economy.
James added: “As we are currently the eleventh most popular holiday destination in the UK, we hope that this year’s events line up will enable our ranking to continue to rise.
“Over the past decade Liverpool’s reputation has grown from strength to strength – not just because of its tourist attractions but for its regeneration efforts and leading business continuity.“
