Tesco to close seven stores in South East amid supermarket wars
Tesco has reported seven out of 43 promised store closures will be in the South East, with the North hit the hardest by the announcement.
Kent will see two store closures: Belvedere’s Tesco Express branch and Chatham’s Tesco Metro store.
In Essex, there will be two store closures: Chelmsford’s Tesco Homeplus and Heybridge Road Tesco Express.
London will lose the South Tottenham High Road Tesco Press and the Longbirgde Road Tesco Express in Barking.
There will also be one store closure in Staines, Surrey of a Homeplus store.
The Express and Home Plus stores will close on 15 March with the Tesco Metros and Superstores on the list closing on 4 April.
Tesco chief executive Dave Lewis told the BBC: “Our priority is to explain what this announcement means for our colleagues and, wherever possible, offer them alternative roles with Tesco.”
