£1.4 million Durham housing development unveiled
Not-for-profit housing provider, Four Housing, has completed twelve new affordable homes in Cotherstone, County Durham as part of a £1.4 million investment and as part of the organisation’s 2011/2015 Housing Programme.
The homes, built to address a very real housing need in the area, were officially opened by Helen Goodman MP during an event on 30th January 2015.
The properties have been developed in partnership with Durham County Council and Partner Construction, along with quantity surveyors Lumsden Wood Partnership. The homes which have gardens and car parking, consist of eight two-bedroom bungalows and four two and three-bedroom houses.
Commenting on the completion of the new homes, Paul Tanney, chief executive at Four Housing, said: “Our focus is to add value to the communities we operate in and improve the lives of those who live in them. We worked closely with Partner Construction, Durham County Council and community members at the start of the scheme and identified a very real need for more affordable housing in the area. It is great to be able to celebrate the completion of more affordable homes in the region.”
Helen Goodman MP commented: “Providing quality affordable homes for local people is a challenge for the area and it is good to see that high quality homes are now available for local people in Teesdale. The Cotherstone development reflects the partnership working of Durham County Council, Four Housing, Partner Construction and Lumsden Wood Partnership and is one of a number of schemes that Four Housing are currently active in.”
Neil Cawson, Senior Area Manager from the Homes and Communities Agency added: “We are delighted to have been able to support the development of this high quality, rural housing scheme in partnership with Four Housing Group. The challenge of providing good quality, affordable homes that help meet the needs of local residents in such locations is very real and something we are keen to help address with partners. I have no doubt the provision of these homes will make a real difference to the quality of life of residents.”
Four Housing has recently completed six new homes in Durham with an investment of £935,000, as well as launching six further new homes. This forms part of the housing provider’s 2011/2015 Housing Programme, which will see the organisation complete a total of 129 new homes in the North East.
