Focus on fast-growing markets at WIA Event

Tips on how to access fast-growing export markets including Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Eastern Europe will be unveiled to businesses wanting to trade overseas at a major We Are International Export Network event in Leeds this spring.

More than 80 novice exporters are expected to attend the event where speakers from The British Polish Chamber of Commerce, Saudi British Joint Business Council and British Chamber of Commerce, Turkey, will give insights on how to access these markets and the potential commercial rewards at Deloitte, Leeds, on March 26.

The We are International initiative – delivered by Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership with support from international trade specialists Chamber International, UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) Yorkshire, Enterprise Europe Network and MY Export Hub – aims to add £1.6bn to the City Region economy and create thousands of jobs by 2018.

Key speakers already finalised for the March event are business manager with the British Chamber of Commerce Turkey, Serenay Yilmaz; director of the British Polish Chamber of Commerce, Patrick Ney with more yet to be finalised.

The latest Export Network event, being arranged by Chamber International, is the seventh event since the initiative, which has engaged with hundreds of businesses, was launched in March 2013. Scores of businesses have since sought help from We are International export ambassadors on a wide range of exporting issues including setting up overseas offices, identifying distributors, adapting products for overseas markets and several have secured their first overseas sales.

The network of export ambassadors is drawn from from successful exporting businesses and includes experts from sectors including chemicals, architectural design, healthcare, textiles, flooring manufacturers, healthcare, logistics, food and food services, and business development all volunteering to give unpaid mentoring to novice exporters.

Chairman of Leeds-based food company Bagel Nash, Keith Ellis, a We are International export ambassador, says: “A recent survey by British Chambers of Commerce identified Yorkshire and Humber has having the highest growth in export activity in England and the We are International initiative is pleased to be part of this.

“There are many high-growth markets beyond continental Europe and we are delighted to have business specialists to speak on Eastern Europe, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, all of which are proven export markets for Yorkshire companies.”
