Neway provides oil refinery cleaning and safety services
~~ELLESMERE Port-based Neway Industrial and Environmental Services has completed a series of skilled and demanding services for the boiler maintenance shutdown at the Essar Oil UK refinery in Stanlow, Cheshire.
Neway supplied specialist industrial cleaning operatives to help the completion of the recent shutdown, where safe, effective and efficient working procedures are paramount.
Neway managing director Wayne Sides said the company has supplied teams of skilled cleaning staff on three Essar Oil UK boiler shutdowns in the past 12 months. Neway’s experienced supervisors and operatives use a variety of specialist, trusted techniques and play a key part in any major shutdown.
Neway also supplied operatives for stand-by duties during the shutdown. They are vitally important for confined-space working and act as a safety lifeline for engineers working inside the boiler. Mr Sides said: “This work showcases Neway’s ability to supply a complete industrial cleaning service with skilled staff managing the work, enabling targets to be met within the required timescale and, most important, safely.
“There are very strict procedures for petrochemical industry shutdowns. These require specially-trained staff with turnaround skills and knowledge of all health-and-safety issues, along with the certification and permits required to carry out the tasks safely. Neway’s supervisors have all the requirements.”
The company used specialist techniques and equipment to help clean boilers internally such as the deluge wash, which is an effective and efficient low-pressure cleaning procedure. Neway supervisors ensured all work was carried out to the highest standards. This required detailed communication throughout the shutdown using radios to pass on crucial information and keep in contact with staff inside the boilers.
Neway’s land and offshore industrial cleaning services provide solutions for sectors including petrochemicals and chemicals, automotive, wind farms, paper mills, food and drinks. The services include UHP water jetting, heat exchanger cleaning, chemical cleaning, surface preparation, high-level and confined-space cleaning, along with project management for shutdowns. Neway offers emergency call-out and long-term contracts tailored to each customer’s needs. All Neway operators and frontline supervisory staff receive intensive health-and safety and specialist equipment training.
Peter Sinkinson, Group Managing Director, said “Neway is targeting more petrochemical shutdown contracts. We want to build on our success in providing specialised cleaning teams to the very high standard required within the industry, which is always evolving.”
