Landlord selected to deliver Salford health projects
City West Housing Trust is in line to deliver more services that will improve care for older people and encourage healthier lifestyles across Salford after securing a place on a new council framework.
The housing association, which owns and manages 14,600 homes, has secured a place on Salford City Council’s Public Health Service Procurement Framework to deliver vital projects and services across the city.
The framework was set up by the council to encourage innovative approaches to improving healthcare at a time when local authorities are seeing their budgets cut.
City West will now be able to bid to deliver services related to older people’s health as well as projects that will improve health outcomes in local communities.
David Cummins, Managing Director of City West Housing Trust, said: “City West has a long history of delivering successful health and wellbeing projects across our neighbourhoods in Salford. Securing a place on the framework will mean we will now have the opportunity to bid to provide even more services and initiatives to people living across the city.
“We are proud of our record of working with communities to deliver projects that help change attitudes and behaviour and crucially improve health outcomes. Our work delivering care services to older and vulnerable people has earned us recognition across the housing sector and will be increasingly vital as we tackle the challenges of an aging population.”
The landlord has delivered a number of successful community health initiatives in recent years, including a food parcel project which has supplied 360 food parcels to 218 households in Salford, and its ‘Eat the School’ project which taught 462 children how to grow their own healthy fruit and vegetables.
City West manages 12 sheltered housing schemes and three extra care facilities in Salford to house elderly and vulnerable residents, and runs a wide range of projects such as social clubs to help tackle loneliness and isolation and gardening schemes to help people keep active.
David added: “By working together with partners on this framework we can help make a real difference for the people of Salford and ensure that more high quality care and support services are delivered in our communities.”
