Early-bird discount offers chance to see legends

Tickets for the Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament go on sale on Wednesday, February 4 with limited time discounts on offer to see the legends of the court do battle.

The tournament returns to Liverpool Cricket Club in Aigburth next year and talks are currently ongoing to confirm another stellar line-up of legends and up-nd-coming ATP and WTA stars for the 14th annual tennis spectacle.

Early-bird deals mean you can save 10% on tickets until March 1 if you buy online at www.liverpooltennis.co.uk.

Last year saw then reigning Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli take to the court and the crowd was treated to a shock as she was defeated by 15-year-old rising star Jodie Burrage.

Since then Burrage has gone on to reach the semi-finals of the Japan Junior Open doubles with fellow Brit Jasmine Ashgar.

Liverpool tournament organiser Anders Borg said the 2015 tournament is shaping up to be the biggest and best yet.

“Over the years we have delivered everything,” he said. “Grand Slam winners, reigning champions, legends and even a few shocks from the rising stars!

“The tournament is part of the fabric of Liverpool, a key event of the summer. Last year the entire globe sat up and took notice of the tournament and this year we are planning to make the Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament even bigger again.

“The global superstars are just the start. For example last year the tournament’s engagement with schools led to Liverpool setting a new world record for the biggest ever tennis lesson.

“I’d urge anyone hoping to come along to get your tickets early because you don’t want to miss this.”

Liverpool City Council will this year work with the tournament to encourage young people to try tennis at the Liverpool Tennis Centre in Wavertree.

Liverpool Cllr Wendy Simon, Assistant Mayor and Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Events, said the council was proud to continue its long-running association with the tournament.

“The Liverpool Hope University International Tennis Tournament is a great event for the city,” she said. “Not only does it show the world a completely different side to Liverpool, it also encourages people to get involved in a new sport and gives tennis fans the chance to see some of the greatest players ever up close.

“It is a valuable part of the city’s visitor offer during the summer and We are proud to be a part of it.”
