Major music festival heads to Exhibition Park

Global Superstar headliner DJs Steve Angello and Steve Aoki have been confirmed to perform at a major music festival in Newcastle’s Exhibition Park in May 2015.

N0rthern Lights, brainchild of celebrated regional music promoter, Mike “MishMash” Hesketh, is set to attract thousands of revellers to the North East, who will enjoy a full blistering weekend of electronic music across three stages on the recently re-developed 35 acre site in the heart of the city.

The event, which will be the region’s first ever greenfield electronic music festival, has been described by its organisers as the live event of the summer, and will take place on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May.

The line-up includes some amazing acts, and the main stage alone will boast a host of award-winning artists including Steve Angello, Steve Aoki, Cosmic Gate, Ben Klock and Ricky Ahmed.

Angello will be joined by over 50 other world famous and internationally renowned artists, who will play over 20 hours of music set to the backdrop of Newcastle’s iconic Exhibition Park.

Local DJ and fast-rising star Patrick Topping will complete a stellar bill that promises to create the precedent for other festivals to follow in years to come.

Northern Lights has already hosted a string of high-profile events in the region, including a 7,000 capacity event at Time Square last May and a sell-out gathering Sage Gateshead, where 2,500 packed a completely transformed venue.

This latest expansion represents a major coup and life-long dream for North East born promoter Mike Hesketh, and he promises serious fans of electronic music will not be disappointed when they attend the event in May.

He said: “Our event in May will be Newcastle’s first ever multi-stage greenfield festival and will bring a pure and true festival experience to the North East.

“The location is ideal, set just outside the city centre and connected to all of the major transport links. We’re delighted to be able to attract so many amazing names from the electronic world.

“We’ve doubled our expenditure that we would normally invest in stage and sound equipment, and a six figure pyrotechnic & firework pot has been made available to make this a spectacular breathtaking show!”

Northern Lights will also feature a giant fun fair, two large bars as well as multiple food stalls. VIP guests will be treated to a stunning boutique “VIP Village” which will offer customers and guests an upmarket experience, complete with private first class toilets, a private bar and chill out areas as well as a variety of fun outdoor games.

Festival Director, Jim Mawdsley, added: We are absolutely buzzing to be producing this event in the greenfield space of Exhibition Park. I have produced events in Newcastle Gateshead for over 15 years now and moving into this park to host this event feels like we will now have what everyone considers a proper festival.

“The city has again shown us great support in making this move and with the world class line-up we are delivering alongside the production values of the event, this will be a festival of music that has never been seen before in the North East. We are massively confident that this festival will be remembered for years.”
