Builder raises thousands for end of life care charity

An end of life care charity has received a welcome fundraising boost thanks to the efforts of a leading Scottish builder.

Bathgate-based Persimmon Homes East Scotland handed over a cheque for £30,000 to Marie Curie Partnerships Manager Georgina Bushell to support the valuable service that Marie Curie provides for people living with a terminal illness across the country.

The money was raised at a glittering black tie event held at the Sheraton Grand Resort and Spa in Edinburgh involving over 350 guests and compered by Scottish comedian and radio presenter, Fred MacAulay.

Jim Kirkpatrick, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes East Scotland, said: “Raising £30,000 is a huge achievement and I would like to thank my team and business partners for the role that they have played in supporting our fundraising efforts throughout 2014.

“I am pleased to announce that Marie Curie has been nominated as our chosen charity for 2015 and we hope to raise even more money this year.”

Marie Curie offer care to terminally ill people in their own homes and in one of the charity’s nine hospices. Over 2,000 nurses work in the community to provide end of life care to 94% of the country.

Georgina Bushell, Partnership Manager at Marie Curie, said: “A huge thank you to Persimmon Homes East Scotland for their support in 2014. We’re very excited with their plans for this year and look forward to working with them to help smash their fundraising target.”

Jim added: “An ambitious plan to climb Ben Nevis has been hatched to kick-off fundraising in 2015 and all monies raised will again be donated to Marie Curie.”
