£13 million Premier Inn complex to bring 70 new jobs to Sutton

Premier Inn has announced plans to build a new £13 million hotel and restaurant complex in Sutton town centre.

Sutton Council’s planning committee has approved plans for a Premier Inn hotel with 127 rooms and a restaurant on the existing site of Sutton Superbowl in St Nicholas Way.

The complex will create 70 new jobs and add to the multi-million pound regeneration of Sutton town centre which is now well under way.

The building will increase from a three storey to a five storey building and convert the ground floor to restaurant use.

It is hoped that the new complex will help generate more visitors to shops in central Sutton as well as enhance both the local daytime and night time economy.

Cllr Richard Clifton, chair of the Planning Committee, said: “There is a shortage of hotel accommodation in the town centre and this will go some way towards improving the attractiveness of the area for business and leisure visitors. It can enhance our economy as well as create jobs for local people.

“Shoppers will have seen the Times Square redevelopment is now well under way to revitalise our retail space. The regeneration of Sutton station is also going to significantly improve our town centre. Adding this new hotel complex will boost the town centre’s offer significantly.”

John Rumsey, acquisitions manager for Premier Inn, said: ’We are delighted to have been granted planning permission for our new 127-bedroom Premier Inn in Sutton. The new hotel will deliver over £13 million in fresh investment, as well as creating approximately 70 new year-round jobs for the local area.

“We are proud to be a part of the town centre’s regeneration and keen to play a role in supporting the local economy. We look forward to starting work on site and opening our doors to customers as soon as possible.’
