Hartlepool Enterprise Centre presents charity donation
A GROUP of Hartlepool businesses have led by example presenting a valuable donation to a local care facility.
Businesses from the Hartlepool Enterprise Centre donated £420 to The Hospital of God – Gretton Court Nursing Home after raising money through an on-going book sale and its annual Christmas Fayre.
The care facility, which houses 33 full-time residents, is a registered charity and specialises in the care of elderly people suffering from dementia.
Janet Day, Assistant Manager of Hartlepool Enterprise Centre, said: “The businesses have spoken for a long time about supporting a dementia cause. With such a rise in diagnosed cases across the UK almost everyone you speak to has a family member or friend with this awful condition.
“It would have been easy for them to donate to one of the national organisations supporting this cause but they wanted to look for something closer to Hartlepool.
“This local charity was therefore perfect choice.”
“We cannot emphasise enough the importance of Hartlepool businesses supporting local causes.”
The charity will use the money to fund various activities and entertainment for its residents, including trips out, birthday parties and themed entertainers.
Registered Home Manager Andrea Atkinson is confident the donation will make a difference.
She said: “The £420 raised will go towards funding visits, on top of bringing in entertainment for residents. We’ve had Christmas carollers, Elvis and even belly dancers over the past few months.
“You would not believe the difference one activity can make to our residents, it was a lovely surprise to get the call from the Hartlepool Enterprise Centre just before Christmas. The businesses have been so generous and we would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved.”
This was the fourth successful fayre run by the businesses and team at Hartlepool Enterprise Centre which has raised approximately £2,000 for local charities.
