Sanderson Weatherall acts on £250k Newcastle Quayside champagne bar transformation

A Grade II listed office building on Newcastle’s Quayside has been given a new lease of life as a champagne bar in a deal struck by chartered surveyor and property consultancy Sanderson Weatherall.

Sanderson Weatherall acted as agents for the building’s owners, London and Scottish, and secured a lease which will see the 3,000 sq ft space transformed into Glass House, a luxury bar serving champagne, wine and cocktails with tapas and canapés also on the menu.

Refurbishment works are now underway on the venue, which is located in Milburn House on Dean Street, Newcastle. The bar’s owner, Mark Nigrelli, is investing £250,000 in the venture that promises to bring some sparkle to this formerly disused space.

Milburn House provides over 100,000 sq ft of space over eight floors and through London & Scottish, asset managers of the building, owners Toscafund are working on a long term plan of investment in the building to provide a modernised contemporary city centre environment for a variety of commercial occupiers.

Steven Griffiths of London and Scottish said: “We are delighted to have secured this letting to a high-end leisure user as it fulfils one of our strategic aims for Milburn House, an iconic building in the Newcastle market.

“We have a very happy and close working relationship with our joint agents at the building and this letting proves the value of Sanderson Weatherall’s local contacts, understanding of what we are trying to achieve and their ability to measure their approach and strike a deal that gets the job done.”

In addition to the wine and champagne bar offering, the Glass House will also include an outdoor courtyard area and a whiskey cellar.

Commenting on the deal, Sanderson Weatherall’s associate partner in the commercial agency department, Kevin McGorie, said: “This deal sees what was previously office space transformed and is further proof that we are seeing a real resurgence in the Quayside area. The past year has seen a number of new bars and restaurants opening in this location, and we are delighted to have been able to secure this space for a high-quality new venture in the city.”

Milburn House boasts a central location in the heart of Newcastle, between the city’s cathedral and castle keep. It is just a three minute walk from the Quayside and five minutes from the train station and Metro connections.
