TEDCO Business Support to deliver new government initiative supporting North East startups

Government Launches initiative to Support North East New Business Start-ups

A new business start-up initiative aiming to build on the regional success of the Ready for Business enterprise programme has been announced by Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister today.

The new Start and Grow programme, funded by the Governments Regional Growth fund, will once again be delivered in the North East by start up support agency TEDCO Business Support, and across England by the Cavendish Consortium

The programme aims to drive enterprise in areas where there are lower levels of business start-up and will build on the legacy of the Ready for Business programme which has so far created over 630 new business starts and created an additional 485 new jobs in the North East, since its launch in 2012.

The Cavendish Consortium, made up of six regional Enterprise Agencies together with National Enterprise Network, has helped to create 10,000 new jobs through the current Ready for Business programme.

The new Start and Grow programme will specifically target start-up businesses who are investing to stimulate growth and create employment from an early stage.

It will offer a package of support to help those new businesses grow faster, achieve higher survival rates and employ more.

The support will include one to one advice, business skills training, mentoring, access to finance support and business planning.

Carole White, chief executive of TEDCO Business Support Ltd who will be delivering the programme in the North East, said: “The Ready for Business programme has delivered exceptional value to the North East since its launch in 2012. With over 630 new businesses and 485 additional jobs created so far, the programme has supported hundreds of individuals set up and grow new enterprises within the region.

“We are delighted to be able to build on the success of Ready for Business with the next phase of the RGF funded programme to deliver a unique and dedicated support package for enterprising individuals.

“New business start-ups are vital to the future growth of the local economy and the Government has once again recognised this with funding to deliver a progamme which supports new businesses at a very local level.”
