Flourishing Hebburn-based green energy startup creates 26 jobs
Eight months after launching, a Hebburn-based green energy business is flourishing at a pace as it continues to help meet Government initiatives to reduce the UK’s carbon emissions within the residential sector and create jobs.
Castle Green Services, part of the Castle Organisation, has forged ahead with a number of contracts it was awarded under ECO 1 (Energy Companies Obligation), CERO (Carbon Emissions Reduction Obligation), The Green Deal and HHCRO (Home Heating Cost Reduction Obligation), saving both tonnes of carbon and pounds off energy bills.
To date some 152,442 tonnes of carbon and £22 million worth of heating cost savings have been made. These latest savings are derived from a range of activities that Castle Green Services is responsible for including the installation of external wall insulation, loft insulation and energy efficient boilers.
In fact, Castle Green Services has been so successful with the number of boiler installations it has carried out that the savings made match that of ANESCO UK, a national organisation which topped the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 list as one of the country’s fastest growing privately owned companies in December 2013. Quite an achievement for a north east based SME.
Furthermore, working on behalf of the Office for Low Emission Vehicles, the company installed 600 electric car chargers in homes in the North East, York and Carlisle in a three month period.
Since launching Castle Green Services has created 26 jobs, ranging from contracts managers to installers as well as administration roles.
Andrew Dawson is delighted with the progress the company has made so far, he said: “When launching Castle Green Services the board of the Castle Organisation took a calculated risk after identifying a gap in the market as perceptions about the energy efficiency sector showed signs of change and wider understanding by the domestic market.
“Since launching we have aligned ourselves with a number of organisations and green deal providers and have bi-lateral agreements in place which have enabled us to build strong working relationships which, when coupled with our high levels of service delivery, have been pivotal to our success so far.”
“With the introduction of ECO 2 funding this April we are confident that because of the work we have done so far we will continue to make great strides in the energy efficiency sector and create further work for ourselves and our local supply chain.”
Under the new ECO 2 2015-2017 targets, it is anticipated that HHCRO will create some £3.7 billion worth of bill savings, while CERO 12.4MtCO2 and CSCO 6 MtCO2 will together save 184 million tonnes of carbon.
