£4.4 million transformation of Warrington’s Victoria Park underway

Warrington Borough Council (WBC) has announced the start on site of one of the £4.4 million transformation of sports facilities at Warrington’s Victoria Park and the creation of a new Community Hub.

The 67 acre Victoria Park project is a key part of Warrington Means Business, Warrington’s framework for growth and the work being undertaken will not only reinvigorate the park but make it a community resource to be proud of.

By making outdoor sport more accessible to groups across the area, the scheme will create a leading sports facility for Warrington and potentially one of the finest in the North West when it is completed in Autumn this year.

The works at Victoria Park will include a few sports stand, floodlit rugby and football pitches and improvements to existing pitches and car parking facilities.

The new 300 seat sports stand will provide spectators and the community with a high quality, purpose built and fully accessible environment of enhanced facilities.

In addition Warrington Wolves will also utilise this facility as a match ground for junior and non-Super League games. Latchford Albion will also use the ground.

The development scheme is being overseen by Warrington & Co., Warrington’s partnership for growth.

Contractors on the Victoria Park scheme, Buckingham Group, previously won the contract to demolish the former Warrington Wolves stadium at Wilderspool where they took on a number of apprentices as part of that contract.

They are now continuing their apprenticeships in the construction of this new facility at Victoria Park.

Executive board member for leisure, community and culture, Cllr Kate Hannon, said: “Warrington Borough Council’s vision is to transform Victoria Park into a dedicated “Sports Hub” and to making it Warrington’s key sporting, leisure and community events location for the whole region and a showcase for the quality of life that Warrington enjoys.”
