The Deep in Hull is going ‘green’

One of the region’s best known tourist attractions is going to install solar panels in a bid to cut its fuel bill and help the environment.

Colin Brown, the CEO of The Deep in Hull, said the move made sense because the extensive roof space of its Business Centre meant they could accommodate a large number of solar PV panels.

Mr Brown said: “As a leading tourist attraction and a conservation charity, it makes perfect sense for The Deep to install solar panels to generate its own electricity.

“We have wanted to do this for some time and now we have found the perfect supplier in Discover Energy, one of the country’s leading solar installation firms who are based in Beverley.

“Indeed, once the solar panel installation has been completed it will become an additional attraction for visitors and we will have a video installation showing how the panels were installed and what their impact will be on The Deep.”

Discover Energy is increasingly fitting solar panels to the roofs of firms in Hull and they are looking forward to the project with The Deep beginning soon.

Martin Bleasby, from Discover Energy, said: “The Deep is a wonderful building and one of the best attractions in the region so it’s something of a feather in our cap to be selected to carry out the installation.

“This is a major project for us and we are going to record every step to show future visitors why and how we carried out this solar installation.”

Mr Bleasby pointed out that lots of companies could make effective use of solar panels and his firm is increasingly undertaking installations for agricultural and engineering firms in the area to help underline its position as the leading solar PV provider.

This also means that Discover Energy is looking to expand its workforce in the coming months to help cope with its growing order book.

Clients are increasingly attracted to the firm’s strong business offering which includes installation and then monitoring the solar panels to ensure they are working correctly and delivering the savings that they should be doing.
