Mechan signs new agent to increase gulf trade

Rail depot equipment specialist, Mechan, is raising its profile in the Middle East by forging links with one of the region’s leading transport industry suppliers.

Arabian Railway Company (ARC) is joining the Sheffield-based firm’s network of overseas agents to introduce Saudi Arabia to its heavy lifting products.

Lee Pitts, Mechan’s sales manager, said: “There is a particularly active rail industry in the Middle East, where significant investment is being made in infrastructure. Having such a well respected, high profile partner representing our depot maintenance products will no doubt open doors and help us extend our reach across the region. Exports play a key role in our ongoing success and we are confident ARC will be a welcome addition to our supplier network.”

The two firms were introduced at last year’s Middle East Rail Exhibition in Dubai, following which a visit to Mechan’s Sheffield headquarters was arranged. A meeting between Richard Carr, Mechan’s managing director, ARC chief executive, Emad Alrajih and director, Andrew Hammond, was then held in London to agree principle terms for a formal partnership arrangement.

Andrew Hammond added: “We are really looking forward to working with Mechan. The firm’s lifting products are a perfect complement to the multi disciplinary services we already provide and we are keen to forge links with manufacturers that have such an excellent track record for safety and reliability. The support offered by the UK sales and engineering teams will enable us to position Mechan as the local industry standard for depot maintenance equipment.”

Lee Pitts will be joining ARC on stand C30 at this year’s Middle East Rail exhibition in Dubai from March 17-18. He will be available throughout the trade fair to answer visitor questions about Mechan’s wide range of lifting and handling products.
