citybike celebrates Chinese New Year

citybike Liverpool is celebrating the beginning of the Chinese Year of the Goat this weekend.

The cycle hire scheme is issuing special edition Chinese New Year postcards across Liverpool’s Chinatown and on social media the scheme has undergone a facelift – complete with citybike Chinese translation.

Councillor Malcolm Kennedy, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Transport and Climate Change said getting involved in Chinese New Year was important for citybike and a great opportunity for people to try the city’s much loved hire bikes.

“Our connection to China and the Chinese community is part of the city’s heritage and we wanted citybike to reflect that by getting into the spirit of Chinese New Year.

“With so many people expected to join the celebrations and with the consequent road closures in place, citybike is the perfect way to get to the event and around town on Sunday.”

All weekend citybike will be offering tips and advice via Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #citybikeChineseNY for how best to enjoy the Chinese New Year celebrations across the city, with all activities across the city centre accessible by citybike.

There are now more than 120 stations, 650 cycles in circulation and citybike day hire costs from just £3. Hourly top-ups cost just £1 per hour. Annual memberships are just £60 and include the first half hour of every journey free plus five hours of free cycle time for longer trips.
