Leeds’ Northern Monk Brew Co. to invest £100k in major growth

Independent Leeds brewer Northern Monk Brew Co. is investing £100k into growth after securing funding from LEP and the Business Growth Programme.

Northern Monk Brew Co have had a great start to 2015 with an increase in demand for their range of beers.

The company will create four new jobs, increase the brewing capacity by 66%, open up a bottling line, install a new fire exit so that Chapter Hall can open and install a pilot kit, which will allow smaller brew batches to be made.

The expansion plans have been made through the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and their Business Growth Programme.

Based at the Old Flax Store of Marshalls Mill, The Northern Monk Refectory, which launched in October 2014, is also going from strength to strength and plans to hold more events thanks to the growth scheme as they look to open The Chapter Hall event space.

Founder and director Russell Bisset said: “We were successful in securing a grant of just under £18k from the LEP and this funding, together with other finance totalling around £100k is enabling us to invest in additional machinery to increase production capacity, make alterations to our premises and create four new jobs.

“It is really exciting times here with some big plans as we launch around six new beers, numerous new collaborations and look to open up the top floor (Chapter Hall) for events.”
