Jones Bros contracts director receives prestigious industry award

Experienced civil engineer John Dielhof who has led on many high profile projects undertaken by Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK has been honoured with a top industry accolade.

John, (pictured) contracts director at North Wales-based family firm Jones Bros, was named as a fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) at a ceremony held at its historic headquarters in central London.

The award was presented by ICE president Professor David Balmforth and is reserved for senior civil engineers who have made a significant contribution to the civil engineering profession or have advanced the practice of engineering.

John, who has worked for Ruthin-based Jones Bros for 15 years, said it was an honour to be asked to become a fellow of ICE. “I was really surprised to receive the invitation and am absolutely chuffed,” he said.

“After a long and varied career in civil engineering it is great to receive such public recognition. The ceremony itself was terrific and we were treated to a tour of ICE’s impressive headquarters, One Great George Street in Westminster.”

John relocated from his native Australia to North Wales in 1989 to work as an engineer on the A55 Conwy tunnel project, a £190m scheme that was, at the time, the largest construction project in Europe. He later became a chartered engineer and was appointed a member of the Australian Institution of Civil Engineers.

John joined Jones Bros in 2000, returning to Brisbane, Australia in 2006 to work as a construction manager for one year, before returning to Jones Bros.

He has since lead on many multi-million pound projects undertaken by Jones Bros across the UK including renewable energy project Crystal Rig II wind farm in the Scottish borders, one of the UK’s largest wind farms, and The Pen y Cymoedd wind farm in South Wales on behalf of Vattenfall. John also oversaw an award-winning multi million pound project to improve coastal defences at Tywyn in North Wales.

Huw Jones, managing director of Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK, said: “We are very proud of John and his appointment as a fellow of ICE is well deserved.

“John has worked with us as we have grown considerably over the past few years and has played a significant contribution towards making Jones Bros a leading civil engineering company.”

Founded in the 1950s, Jones Bros employs approximately 300 people. It operates across the UK in sectors including construction of waste management facilities, highways and renewable energy projects such as wind farms.
