Warrington’s Your Housing Group becomes living wage employer

Warrington-based, Your Housing Group, a UK housing association, which employs 1,400 people across the North West, Staffordshire and Yorkshire has received Living Wage accreditation from the Living Wage Foundation.

In total 224 people, 16 per cent of the Your Housing Group workforce, will benefit by having their pay increased to the Living Wage of £7.85 per hour or above.

The Living Wage is £1.35 an hour higher than the national minimum wage for adults of £6.50 an hour.

Group Director People and Communications at Your Housing Group, Wendy Doherty, said: “We are committed to our employees’ financial well-being and therefore delighted to be a Living Wage employer.

“We have 1,400 employees and many of these people work in the care and supported housing sectors, which are often amongst the lowest paid.

“By paying above the national minimum wage, we are not only transforming the lives of our employees but we are making sure they feel valued for the exceptional services they provide to our customers.”

Director of the Living Wage Foundation, Rhys Moore, said, “We are delighted to welcome Your Housing Group to the Living Wage movement as an accredited employer.”

“The best employers are voluntarily signing up to pay the Living Wage now. The Living Wage is a robust calculation that reflects the real cost of living, rewarding a hard day’s work with a fair day’s pay.

“We have accredited over 1,200 leading employers, including Your Housing Group, ranging from independent printers, bookshops and breweries, to well-known companies such as Nationwide, Aviva and SSE.

“These businesses recognise that clinging to the national minimum wage is not good for business. Customers expect better than that.

“Your Housing Group is really showing how valuable supporting people and families is to their business; the benefits of a Living Wage are felt first and foremost at home.”
