Automotive manufacturer recruits three Tyne North Training Apprentices

Faltec, one of the largest injection moulding and press facilities in the North East, has recently recruited three engineering apprentices. Due to the business expanding as a result of increased production volumes from NMUK, Toyota, Land Rover and Honda, Faltec have recognised the need to bring in new apprentices to underpin the future of the mechanical and design departments at the Boldon facility.

Daniel and Connor were recruited and started on site at the plant last year and are training to become toolmakers. Having completed the intensive college block release, they are now working 4 days a week in the engineering department.

Mark was recruited in September last year and has recently started his technical training in the design department working on designs of exterior trim for a number of vehicle models.

Brian McDonald, Senior Manager of Design, Engineering and Projects at Faltec, is genuinely excited about the new philosophy of recruiting engineering apprentices. Already there are plans to recruit an additional 2 apprentices in September 2015.

John Hopper commented “Faltec initially recruited 2 craft apprentices which is clearly proving to be successful given the commitment by Faltec to recruit additional craft apprentices this September. What impresses me most of all though is the fact that Faltec recognised the need for a technical apprentice last Summer to work in the design department. Until recently, companies have opted to recruit technical design engineers via the university degree route however a Technical Apprenticeship is now becoming common place”.
