Business leaders discuss the challenges faced by small businesses today

While new and emerging technologies are embraced at lightning speed by the world’s biggest companies, for smaller businesses, knowing how to use the staggering growth of IT, computing and technology to help improve their bottom line is not always obvious. Recent figures reveal that inefficiencies are costing businesses a significant amount of time and money, with the average business losing almost £35,000 in their first year.

Research also suggests that male-led businesses are less efficient than those run by women, which Justine Roberts the Founder of Mumsnet and Gransnet suggests could be down to “men having an unbounded confidence in their own ability to just be right without necessarily checking the market”.

According to David Rowan, Editor of Wired Magazine UK “access to fast reliable broadband is a human right” and in a world where everything is going to be online, it’s shocking to discover that certain areas in the UK are ranked as having one of the slowest broadband speeds in all of Europe.

Founders of the Cereal Killer Café, Gary and Alan Keery, took a more traditional approach by asking real customers on the streets of London whether they thought their idea would work.
