Cheshire East Council to invest in Middlewich creating 3,000 jobs over five years
Cheshire East Council has announced a plan focussing on improving roads and connectivity around Middlewich.
Working with Middlewich Town Council, Cheshire East want to improve the town centre, high street and create new leisure facilities, housing, schools and bus and cycle links.
The plans will also include revamping the railway station.
The Council estimates that up to 3,000 jobs could be created over the next five years as a result of increased investment in Middlewich.
Plans are in their early stages and more will be announced in due course.
Cheshire East Council Leader Councillor Michael Jones said: “Middlewich is a key town in Cheshire East and I am determined to meet the aspirations of the local members and the town council.
“I foresee a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the town with new investment and jobs being created, all carried out in a way which protects the heritage and well-being of residents.
“It is no less than the people of Middlewich deserve.
“There is a real opportunity to capitalise on the growth of the Borough and investment Cheshire East is geared up for.
“The potential North West Gateway hub station for HS2, in Crewe, provides the catalyst for real growth in Middlewich and for our vision to be delivered.
“The possibilities for regeneration are huge and we are working to turn them into reality.”
Middlewich Town Mayor Councillor Paul Edwards said: “Middlewich Town Council is happy to work with Cheshire East and would like to see the Council working towards some committed dates for projects such as the Middlewich Eastern Bypass, so as to give the residents of Middlewich re-assurance that the town is really moving forward.
“Middlewich Town Council will work tirelessly with Cheshire East to complete the Local Plan, which will help to generate job opportunities and a better environment for our residents.”
