Stark difference hourly earnings: Celeb v professional rates.

Formula one champion Lewis Hamilton earns an average hourly rate of £11,703.33 which is almost 230 times more than a pilot who earns £50.98 per hour and 1626 times more than a taxi driver at £7.20 ph, according to a unique new take on British salaries.

Freelance website PeoplePerHour has worked out, as its name suggests, the average hourly rates for UK professional, as an alternative to the usual overall annual wage scale. The hourly figures reveal how much various professions from footballers to police officers earn.

Top of the tree are the superstars – actors like Emma Watson who can earn more than £13,000 for every hour she spends working and TV Broadcasters like Jeremy Clarkson who earn over £7000 for every hour of a working week.

Supermodels like David Gandy bring in over £500 per hour on average, although the time spent on each job may be minimal. While at the bottom of the comprehensive list of professions are receptionists who pull in just over £6.50 for each hour they work.

The last decade has seen a growing number of workers who have gone freelance which means they are available for hire by the hour rather than full or even part time. As a result, Britain’s wage packets are no longer defined as merely a weekly or monthly salary but by what can be earned for a single hour’s work, said the research.

It comes as Europe’s biggest freelance marketplace PeoplePerHour launches their latest Innovation, SuperTasker. Supertasker’s vision is to be your ‘Digital HelpDesk in the Cloud’, allowing you to outsource and manage high volumes of small tasks, super fast, to a pool of curated experts.

Researchers from the organisation, which has launched SuperTasker both here and in the US, trawled through industry figures for both salaries and hours worked.

For many state-run professions, the typical week is 37 hours but for others it is not so simple. For instance actors may work very long hours for a period of weeks/months on a set and then have months doing nothing, as will footballers who work many hours during the season but get paid throughout, which in the case of Wayne Rooney means he earns over 8000 per hour for a typical week.

Those who earn less per hour are not always worse off, especially if they are in professions where it is possible to clock up the hours. This can include hard-working self employed editor/copywriters, seo specialists, interior designers and computer programmers as well as the vast workforce of tradesmen and women. In the changing face of employment much more is possible.

SuperTasker is designed for those who want to employ an expert for a one-off job. Using intelligent algorithms to route the work to the most suited available taskers with a proven track record, so the work starts immediately. Delivery is time-boxed so you only pay for results, and price is set dynamically based on availability and demand in real time.

With more and more work being done online, there is less travelling, unnecessary expense and time being wasted said PeoplePerHour founder Xenios Thrasyvoulou.

He said: “SuperTasker is our way of making it even more simple for every person to join the online working revolution.

Everybody has free time and a skill or service that has value to someone. It helps people not only earn extra cash by ‘moonlighting,’ but also take the first step in creating a fully-fledged entrepreneurial business, an ambition many people harbour.“

He added: “By bringing the unit of work down to as little as one hour, and giving power to the worker to define what they can do and at what price, we’re unlocking a huge untapped market for micro-services that people can deliver in their spare time.

That’s great for workers, businesses and consumers the world over who need project-based freelance help.“
