Contractor announced for £41 million York Stadium scheme

ISG has been appointed preferred bidder for the £41 million York Community Stadium and Leisure Complex scheme.

The contractor will build a 8,000-seat home stadium for York’s football and rugby teams with hospitality and conferencing facilities for the developer consortium led by Greenwich Leisure.

ISG will build three external flood-lit sports pitches, provide car parking, and extend the nearby Monks Cross Park & Ride facility.

The stadium’s East Stand will feature a three-storey community hub, providing accommodation for York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, York Against Cancer, York St John University and Be Independent.

These organisations will provide facilities and services for the community and visitors.

Work is expected to begin on site in summer 2015, with completion scheduled for autumn 2016.

ISG Northern regional managing director Danny Murray said: “Our involvement in the York Community Stadium project extends back to 2012.

“We have worked closely with GLL and our consortium partners to bring the vision for this regional leisure scheme to reality.

“ISG has exceptionally strong leisure sector credentials, delivering iconic sporting venues like the Olympic Velodrome and the National Football Development Centre in Newport.

“We are looking forward to working with our consortium partners to create superb new facilities for York.”
