Midlands insolvency firm to scale new heights for charity

A Midlands insolvency firm is looking to scale new heights for its anniversary charity drive.

A trio of staff from Poppleton & Appleby, which has offices in Birmingham and Coventry, are set to kick-start the company’s 130th anniversary celebrations by abseiling down Birmingham’s iconic Fort Dunlop building.

Laura Tilson, Sharon Hill and Siann Huntley will tackle the 100ft descent on Saturday, March 7 to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Poppleton & Appleby has established a long-lasting relationship with the hospital having previously raised over £1,000 to help support children treated at the hospital as well as donating a Sunshine Coach in 2006.

And the trio, who are set to scale the building dressed as P&A pandas, will be looking to boost the fundraising coffers even further by raising a record sum as a tribute to the company’s 130th anniversary.

Laura Tilson, from Poppleton & Appleby, said: “It is the first time any of us have abseiled so we are quite nervous but it is a really good cause and we were keen to do something a bit different.

“We have already received a fantastic response from colleagues, clients, friends and family who have all been extremely generous with their donations. I’m sure a lot of them will also be there on the day to cheer us on.

“The donations certainly started to flow when we announced that we would dress up in panda onesies if we reached the £300 target – which of course we did.

“We are just hoping to raise as much money as possible to support those who are treated at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Our previous fundraising activities have been really successful with everyone eager to get involved so we are hoping for the same if not better this time round.

“The charity abseil is just the start of our anniversary celebrations and we have a fantastic calendar of fundraising events lined up throughout the year.”

Sonika Vijh, events fundraising associate at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, added:

“We want to say a huge thank you to the team at Poppleton & Appleby for taking part in our abseil at Fort Dunlop.

“We are delighted that the trio has chosen to do their first-ever abseil for us and are looking forward to seeing the panda outfits. The money they raise will go a long way to helping the children and their families at our hospital.”
