Prime site offers exciting development opportunity
A RARE opportunity to build new homes at a prime Middlesbrough location is available from this week.
Outline planning permission is already in place for the development of five large detached dwellings on the highly sought-after De Brus Park site in Marton.
The prime 1.95-acre site became available following a major review of Middlesbrough Council’s ‘non-strategic’ assets, to enable further investment in the town’s long-term capital programme.
The location has been the subject of recent development, with ten new homes already built.
An additional planning application was subsequently submitted, with permission for a further five dwellings granted in 2014.
Development guidance for the site is designed to ensure prospective purchasers create high quality individual homes in keeping with the area.
The guidance also seeks to retain as many existing trees on the site as possible, while timescales built into the sale process will ensure the new homes are built within a reasonable period.
The site is being sold by Middlesbrough Council, with tenders invited for individual plots with bids starting from £150,000.
Councillor Charlie Rooney, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, said: “We are currently embarking on the most ambitious house building programme in Middlesbrough’s history, to ensure the town can meet the challenges that lie ahead.
“That means creating homes across the spectrum, from properties to suit those starting out on the housing ladder to large family homes and those in the upper Council Tax bands.
“It’s all about creating the sort of housing mix that attracts people to Middlesbrough and keeps them in the town, which will help to underpin our finances for the future.
“This exciting opportunity at De Brus Park is part of that process, and will help to take the town on to the next level.”
