Persimmon Homes highlight road safety

Persimmon Homes South Midlands have donated 1200 high-visibility wrist bands to Worcester pupils to help keep them safe during their walk to school.

The fluorescent “slap bands” have been provided for pupils at Christopher Whitehead Language College and sixth form to encourage them to make walking to school part of their daily routine by making them more visible to drivers on their journey.

They were provided by housebuilding company Persimmon Homes South Midlands after hearing that a pupil at the school, in Bromwich Road, was knocked down on the way to school in December.

Andy Peters, Managing Director for Persimmon Homes South Midlands, said: “We are committed to supporting the communities in which we build and this donation is an excellent example of the way we can help schools and other local organisations near to our developments.

“Our nearest development, Persimmon Heights, is just one mile away from Christopher Whitehead Language College and therefore seemed the ideal focus for our support.

“We hope our high-visibility slap bands will help keep the children safe by making them more visible to motorists and encourage them to walk to school more regularly. More children walking will also help minimise the number of cars on the road at the beginning and end of the school day in this area.”

David Farmer, Director of Studies at Christopher Whitehead Language College and Sixth Form, said: “The slap bands are an excellent idea and the school is grateful that all students will be provided with a band by Persimmon Homes. Most of our students walk to school and hence the bands will be invaluable for our students. We have decided that we will keep the bands until September and then issue them to all students as the evenings are now becoming lighter. We will use assembly time to promote safe transport on the way to and from school and issue the bands in September. “

Persimmon Heights can be found on Bransford Road just two miles west of central Worcester offering a wide selection of two, three and four bedroom properties.
