Sell-out eat-along movie spiced up by Angeethi
TYNESIDE film and food fanatics swapped popcorn for Bombay mix as they enjoyed an Indian film and food experience as part of the NewcastleGateshead Eat! In Festival, with traditional Indian dishes provided by Gateshead Indian family kitchen, Angeethi.
The sold out Eat-Along Movie event, held on Sunday 1 March 2015, at the Lit and Phil in Newcastle immersed diners in the sights, sounds and tastes of traditional India at a screening of the well-known Indian film The Lunchbox.
Angeethi – The Indian Family Kitchen, based in Low Fell, treated diners to a delicious selection of traditional Indian food carefully prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients which were served as five separate courses throughout the film, mirroring the food seen on-screen.
A selection of authentic Indian nibbles, street food starters, curries and rice dishes were specially prepared for the event to be presented in a 4-tiered tiffin box, a traditional Indian lunchbox used to carry a meal.
Priya Mishra, owner of Angeethi, said: “Tiffin boxes can be traced back to 1811 in India and are still ever-present today in Mumbai, where a complex network of tiffin box lunch deliveries take place every day, as highlighted in The Lunchbox film.
“We were keen to give diners a real taste of India and our team of highly skilled chefs created a selection of special dishes to reflect the food being prepared and eaten on-screen. A couple of these dishes were actually served in tiffin boxes and, of course, delivered to diners by bicycle to really maximise our guests’ film and food experience.
“We are a traditional family Indian kitchen and we endeavour to deliver the true essence of India through a menu of delicious dishes from various regions of India. We always enjoy welcoming new and returning diners to our restaurant and hope to see some of those again who experienced our food during the Eat-Along Movie.”
Eat! In, the winter campaign for EAT! NewcastleGateshead, celebrated the ways in which creating and sharing good food can enhance our lives, ran an exciting schedule of events from 20 February 2015 to 1 March 2015.
